Playground with a view

This beautiful Park with a picturesque view at the impressive mountain tops of Naryn, in northern Kyrgyzstan is not our ordinary project. The park has been founded by His Highness Aga Khan IV: founder and chairman of the Aga Khan Development Network, an group of organisations working towards the improvement of the economic situation and revitalisation of communities, primarily in rural areas in least developed countries in Asia.

“The idea of the Park in Naryn came out because here there are a lot of Parks but all of them are in very bad conditions and very badly maintained. So the idea for this Park was to implement and improve one of these exiting Parks.“ – Roberto Fabbro, AKTC Project Officer

The specific location of the park was chosen carefully  for various reasons: The park is located in the city center, in the immediate vicinity of two important Educational  institutions: Professional School SPCE The School of Professional and Continuing Education and UCA University. The surrounding area was not to big, thanks to which it was possible, with the best effort, to restore the park and carry the renovation of the space in the shortest term possible.

The goal of the park was to support the local population of children and youth, with the focus on their activity and physical development  (the Park is located just in front the sport school). The park gives the visitors an access to a playground, training equipment  and attractive greenery and leisure spots.

The Park has a free Wi-Fi connection, which was particularly important, as there are still communities in Naryn without permanent Internet. The WI-FI Park will then make the technology available for everyone interested.

The design of the park was very well thought out and planned in the smallest details, to facilitate the process of the park maintenance in the future. To cut the costs of energy usage and conservation, the  designers decided to install marble elements in place of wooden benches, and solar lights, that will virtually eliminate the electricity consumption expenses.

In this a particular climate, where the temperature fluctuations in cold and hot seasons might  be significant,  the best decision is to install the play equipment from our Atlantis line- made of galvanized steel and powder coated with a protective layer of special paint.

The restoration of the Park in Naryn is complete and starting to gain popularity among the students right now, in September.

It was an honor for Lars Laj to take part in this project, and support the noble cause of Aga Khan group with creating this simple space that will serve its residents and young generations to come.
We hope to be able to cooperate again in the future.
